ThisisanopenaccesstitleavailableunderthetermsofaCCBY-NC-ND4.0Internationallicence.ItisfreetoreadatOxfordScholarshipOnlineandofferedasafreePDFdownloadfromOUPandselectedopenaccesslocations.InCanadamanypublicprojects,programs,andservicesperformwell,andmanyareverysuccessful.However,thesecasesareconsistentlyunderexposedandunderstudiedinthepolicyliteraturewhich,forvariousreasons,tendstofocusonpolicymistakesandlearningfromfailuresratherthansuccesses.Infact,studiesofpublicpolicysuccessesarerarenotjustinCanada,buttheworldover,althoughthishasstartedtochange(McConnell,2010,2017;Compton&’tHart,2019;Luetjens,Mintrom&’tHart,2019).Likethosepublications,theaimsofPolicySuccessinCanadaaretosee,describe,acknowledge,andpromotelearningfrompastandpresentinstancesofhighlyeffectiveandhighlyvaluedpublicpolicymaking.Thisexercisewillbedonethroughdetailedexaminationofselectedcasestudiesofpolicysuccessindifferenteras,governments,andpolicydomainsinCanada.Thisbookprojectisembeddedinabroaderprojectledby’tHartandOUPexploringpolicysuccessesgloballyandregionally.ItisenvisagedasacompanionvolumetoOUP’s2019offeringGreatPolicySuccesses(Comptonand’tHart,2019)andtoSuccessfulPublicPolicyintheNordicCountries(deLaPorteetal,2022).Thispresentvolumeprovidesanopportunitytoanalyzewhatissimilaranddistinctiveaboutintroducingandimplementingsuccessfulpublicpolicyinoneoftheworld’smostpoliticallydecentralizedandregionallydiversefederationandoldestdemocraticpolities.
